The IMSA Prototype Challenge presented by Mazda championship, newly introduced by IMSA for the 2017 season, is following the worldwide LMP3 rules for the main LMP3 class. Current IMSA Lites cars are still eligible to compete until 2018 in their own PC2 class, in this IMSA Development Series, which enters its 12th season in 2017. The series provides thrilling action and grooms drivers for future IMSA Weather Tech SportsCar Championship competition in the LMP3 and PC2 classes. In the past three seasons JDC MotorSports has claimed all but one (32 out of 33) race wins in the Cooper Tires Prototype Lites Powered by Mazda championship.

The Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge features sports cars from manufacturers worldwide, straight from the showroom floor, racing side-by-side with only minor modifications. The two classes competing simultaneously on track are Grand Sport (GS) and Street Tuner (ST).
